U.S. Shippers and Chassis Providers Clash Over SE Chassis Pool
The proposal to create a Southern States Chassis Pool is pitting U.S. beneficial cargo owners (BCOs) and a trucking association that support it against the three largest chassis providers, ahead of a Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) vote on the cooperative serving Georgia and South Carolina ports. Possible Legislation to Remove China’s Most Favored Nation Status
Ted Poe, chairman of the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation, and Trade, said in a July 11 interview that he and other ranking members of the Subcommittee intend to file legislation to remove China’s Most Favored Nation status. China has had MFN status since 1980, but it was not made permanent until 2001.

Trans-Pac Spot Rates Rise Again Amid Third Service Cut
Spot rates in the eastbound Pacific increased 3.3 percent to the East Coast and 8 Percent to the West Coast, after a double digit increase last week, as yet another carrier alliance announced Friday that is reducing its weekly capacity from Asia to the West Coast. Process for Requesting Remission of Surtax That Apply on Certain Goods From the U.S.
The government of Canada has provided framework and process for how it will consider requests for remission of the surtax that apply on certain U.S. origin goods that came into force on July 1.
