Additional C-TPAT Benefits Under Development
At a July 18 Senate Subcommittee hearing, U.S. Customs Commissioner Kevin McAleenan highlighted additional planned C-TPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) member benefits. Benefits under development include Importer identify theft monitoring and access to AQUA (Advanced Qualified Unlading Approval) lanes which allows some carriers the ability to unlade cargo prior to meeting with U.S. Customs. Bacardi USA Notice of Proposed Production Activity at Foreign Trade Zone
The Foreign Trade Zone Board has received notification from Bacardi USA for proposed production activity for its Jacksonville, Florida location. If approved, this would allow Bacardi to choose the duty rates during customs entry procedures for its domestic sales that apply to gift packs containing glasses as well as Asti spumante, moscato, vermouth, cognac, rum, gins, all flavors of vodka, all flavors of tequila, ice molds, stemware and lead crystal glass. Stuttgart Congestion Sparks Hapag-Lloyd Warning to Shippers
Hapag-Lloyd has warned customers that “substantial growth” in volume in the greater Stuttgart area of southern Germany was causing congestion and the carrier would reject inland haulage bookings or shift containers via alternative terminals and pass on the additional costs to shippers. It is another example of the intermodal bottlenecks being created as container volume continues to flood into Europe, overwhelming inland transportation networks. Allocation and Administration of Tariff Rate Quotas (TRQs) Under the CPTPP
Global Affairs Canada has created a questionnaire for the 20 new TRQs to be established under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Canadian industry is invited to provide input and complete the questionnaire with responses due by August 31. The CPTPP is a multilateral trade agreement signed on March 8, 2018 by Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam. As part of the CPTPP, Canada is providing access to imports of various goods in the dairy, poultry and egg sectors, the access will be administered by the creation of the 20 new TRQs.
