House of Representative Republicans have proposed a “Border Adjustment Tax” plan that would eliminate companies from deducting the cost of imports from their revenue (which currently today enables them to lower their tax burden), and would make exports and other foreign sales tax-free. The American Made Coalition, along with exporting companies are pushing lawmakers to move forward with the plan. A newly formed group, Americans for Affordable Products, which includes importers such as Wal-Mart, Target and Nike, are trying to stop the plan.
