A top Republican lawmaker and a trade analyst are pushing for bilateral trade agreements with Japan and Taiwan with the expected rejection of the TPP by the Trump administration. In a December 6 House hearing, House Chairman Matt Salmon, R-Arizona, said bilateral negotiations with Japan and Taiwan might bring a core group of modern economies to the table in a more feasible framework than the TPP.
