On January 15, 2019, the Safe Foods for Canadian Act (SFCA) and Safe Foods for Canadians Regulation (SFCR) will come into effect. Some requirements will be immediate, while others will be phased in over a 12-30 month period based on food commodity, type of activity and business size. The consolidated regulations will require food business that import or prepare food for export or to be sent across provincial territorial borders to have licenses, as well as preventive controls that outline steps to address potential risks to food safety.
