Trans-Pac Spot Rate Jump: One Off or Early Peak Season?

Spot rates in the east bound Pacific jumped 21.8 percent to the West Coast and 8.1 percent to the East Coast this week, but it is too early to tell whether this was a one-off spike or the first hint of peak season momentum, according to a cargo consolidator and former shipping executive. European Union – Mexico Global Agreement

On April 21, the European Union (EU) and Mexico reached a new agreement on trade, with practically all trade in goods between the EU and Mexico to become duty free, including the agricultural sector. Once in effect, 98 percent of goods traded will immediately have no duties. It is a modernized agreement that broadens the scope of the existing agreement signed in 1997. Goods Subject to Section 201 and Section 232 Duties Not Eligible for GSP Benefits

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) extended the exemptions through May 31 for steel and aluminum importations to the U.S. from Canada and other select countries. Changes to Canada Border Services Agency Anti-Dumping and Countervailing Program

As a result of the amendments to the Special Import Measures Act and the Special Import Measures Regulations that came into force on April 26, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) will conduct scope proceedings and anti-circumvention investigations, assess whether certain sales should be disregarded due to a particular market situation, and provide unions with participatory rights in dumping and subsidy investigations.
