Additional Section 301 Tariffs Target China

On June 15, the United States Trade Representative (USTR) issued an additional list of products targeted for tariffs on Chinese origin goods. On July 6, tariffs of 25 percent will become effective on 818 tariff lines of the original 1,333 tariff lines proposed in April. The additional list of June 15 is for potential new targets. Mexico Retaliatory Tariffs

Mexico has released a list of U.S. goods that have new tariffs as a result of U.S. Section 232 tariffs applied to Mexican origin steel and aluminum. Most of the new tariffs were effective June 5, while the balance is being phased in through July 5. New tariffs range from 7 percent to 25 percent. European Union Retaliatory Tariffs

The first phase of retaliatory tariffs by the European Union will start on June 22. The European Commission has provided final approval for tariffs ranging from 10 percent to 25 percent. China Retaliatory Tariffs

As a response to the U.S. Section 301 tariffs, China is set to implement on July 6, retaliatory 25 percent tariffs on 545 tariff lines, targeting mainly agricultural and automotive goods. Milestone Equipment Holdings Fuels Broader Push to Attract Truckers with New Chassis

Milestone Equipment Holdings plans to nearly double the size of its fleet of mainly new marine chassis to close to 20,000 pieces of equipment, underscoring the broader effort by some providers to attract truckers and shippers with better fuel mileage, less chance of shipment disruptions, and reduced repairs. New Minimum Security Criteria Expected for Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism Program

A nationwide campaign is to start soon on new standards for minimum security criteria that will include webinars and workshops at C-TPAT field offices. This will be followed by a 90 day period where U.S. Customs will accept feedback and questions.

U.S. – China Container Trade Accelerating Despite Tariffs, Import Bans

U.S. trade with Asia rose 3.8 percent in the first quarter, led by a more than doubling in import growth to 8.9 percent, to 3.9 million TEU. IHS Markit’s Trends forecasts a 5.2 percent increase for 2018 to 25.6 million TEU in the trans-Pacific trade between Asia and North America. The comment period is now closed on the Canadian Department of Finance notice of countermeasures on the U.S. Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs.
